An article Testament to a Towkay : Jan Con, Batavia and the Dutch China trade, written by Leonard Blusse, told a Chinese entrepreneur who built the canals of Batavia. His name is Jan Con alias Gonthay, a Chinese immigrant and also a carpenter. He was classified as a Shaven Chinese, that is a convert to Moslem.
